My Review:
Loved by God is a children's hardback picture book about how God loves them and made them (eyes to toes, personality). God loves you no matter where you go or what you go through, "No matter what each season may bring, you're safe under the shadow of his wing." My favorite page was "Follow His Word your whole life through, our faithful God will never let go of you" with a kid reading the Bible and pictures from the Bible coming out and filling the page. But I don't agree with, "There's so much ahead for you to explore, God goes before you and opens the door." God doesn't always open the door, and it's for our benefit that He doesn't.
The illustrations were watercolor style and more cartoonish than realistic. The babies were shown in some startling situations (climbing in a tree with birds) or with a apple head for the words "God watches you. You're the apple of his eye." Which misunderstands what that phrase means, and why even use it in a book for young kids? There were several uses of figurative language that may be hard for young kids to understand. I did like the "He will lead you and guide you every day. His word lights your path and shows the way." But, again, "lights your path" is figurative language and not even needed to make the point. Anyway, I'd suggest that this book is for kids that are old enough to understand that a Bible is not a literal flashlight and that God doesn't see your head as an apple.
